Hi Guys

Hi Guys

Not been on here for a while- build a dual core system a few years ago but have mostly lost touch with PCs since the days of the Barton core AMD 2500+ :D

Anyway- a work collegue of mine bought his son a PC last year and, against my advice, bought it from PC world. It doesn't even run the straight forward games on full screen- minecraft etc! I looked inside to try and upgrade it- but the motherboard is about 6" x 6" with no upgrade slots and built in graphics :( I cant remember what spec it is- but it wasn't particularly good!

So- i have suggested a new system and have put a few items from ebuyer in my shopping cart.

Would you guys mind checking it out to see if i have made any obvious mistakes or whether the money could be better spent elsewhere?

CPU: AMD Athlon II X3 460 3.4GHz Socket AM3 £65
MB: Asus M5A78L-M LX AMD Socket AM3+ £36
Graphics: PowerColor HD 6670 2GB DDR3 £60
RAM: Corsair 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 1333MHz XMS3 £35
HD: Seagate 500GB Barracuda Spinpoint F3 Hard Drive - 3.5" SATA-II £56
Case £20
DVD RW £15
PSU: 500W £17

Total: £305- add a few £ for a mouse and cables perhaps! :)

A few questions:

1) Have i economised too much on the MB?
2) I have read that the CPU is a quad core with 1 disabled core- can the 4th core be enabled with a simple BIOS tweak?
3) Could i spend some money elsewhere to make a dramatic difference in performance?
4) is there an Intel CPU & MB Combo which is drastically better VFM?

Thanks guys! :)

Yet apart from Game Of Thrones, I can't think of any of today's BIG shows that have theme tunes or intros that we'll look back on saying they rock? Maybe they weren't that good... but somehow everyone thinks of these as memorable. I mean, Knightrider and The Equalizer are classics... and Airwolf, what can you say... I mean the list is EPIC! Plus the programs just seemed so entertaining and most people could hum the titles songs, loads of them... of which here is a small selection... I could post all day ROFL... trying to think of stuff from the 90's and man, it's on one hand... and mostly British...

Do you plan on getting a Wii U?
Im thinking I will get one same week of release so long as their are not supply shortages like with the Wii.

One of the best selling points is being able to use the tablet as the TV screen for when the wife watches Housewives. [unsure]
Plus I got to have my Mario Kart. [devil]

I bought a WinFast GT430 1GB DDR3 low-profile graphics card...

I bought a WinFast GT430 1GB DDR3 low-profile graphics card (http://www.leadtek.com/eng/3d_graphi...lineid=1&act=1) and feel cheated. The problem was that the card had much less memory bandwidth than what Leadtek advertised.

According to their webpage (http://www.leadtek.com/eng/3d_graphi...lineid=1&act=2), this card should provide 28.8 GB/sec of memory bandwidth. But a check with GPU-Z shows that the memory bandwidth is only 20.8 GB/sec, far short of what Leadtek claims.

Who here has had similar problems with Leadtek/WinFast graphic cards?

If you're going to get the card I just bought, take note of the problem I've encountered. You may want to pick Asus or Gigabyte instead.
