Looks like it is infact better than the x1950 Pro that I just bought. Not bad, it's about the same price too. Oh well, no loss, I want a "real" DX10 card when I get one anyway

Just read the [H] test:

Uh-oh, whatever happened to it being beaten easily by an X1950Pro, since most of the people here suggested just that until a few days ago?

Think I will wait for something that looks like a real review and not the Hard OCP drivel, Anandtech or better yet Xbit labs would be a good start. Lets get a few reviews of the OC cards and the regular cards and see how it looks. And it looks a lot less impressive in the Tweaktown review, seeing as the 1950 GT is a slower card than the 1950 Pro.

ADDED

Anandtech

I certainly didn't

Anandtech (lower settings - no FSAA or lower res):

BF2142: X1950Pro > 8600GTS > X1950GT
Oblivion: Easy win for 8600GTS
Prey: X1950Pro beating 8600GTS by a about 1-2%, X1950GT is slower
Vegas: X1950Pro beating 8600GTS by less than 1%, X1950GT is slower by a fair margin

In the higher resolution / FSAA modes the 8600 loses a lot, but that was to be expected from a 128bit card.

Seeing how the OC versions according to tweaktown are about 10% faster, it should be obvious that the OC version beats the X1950Pro, the X1950GT really isn't a match, and from the Oblivion result I think that it's obvious that the shader power of the card is quite good. As a small bonus you get DX10 support.

It isn't all that bad at all, depends on what the street price will be really.

Edit: Hmm, hardware.no have their own test up, and the resutls there are horrible compared to the anandtech results!

Here's a Russian review from ixbt, here it looks really bad...
Starting page:
http://www.ixbt.com/video3/g84-part1.shtml

Game tests:
http://www.ixbt.com/video3/g84-part3.shtml

So what's the deal are they using different drivers or what?

Hardware.no's results are horrible too, but they use the same drivers as anandtech!

Wow, the norwegian price for the 8600GTS on launch is lower than I expected! It is only about 20-25 pounds more than the X1950Pro, so basically you pay about that much for DX10 support, so it's not too bad!

Damn, Jamis, just checked that link, those are some horrible results! If those are true than these cards definitely are a waste of money
