Help Re: 2600 xt not performing
I also found a site that said my cpu uses from 36watts to 125watts...so maybe wattage isn't the issue...although Sandra's processor arithmetic benchmark that plots wattage vs. performance showed my reference cpu performing three times better at 125watts.

Any other help is much appreciated...

Alright at this time I would serieusly ask you to look at temps like I said before because that cpu should score a lot more and it's looking like it's throttling. Thought I posted that before, do a run off something and feel the hs with your finger... if it's cold, you got a bad mount, if it's hot you need a better cooler

I ran a cpu burn in test (100% cpu use) for 5 minutes and the max temp stayed at was 48 C.

Download the free version off Sisoft Sandra and run a cpu benchmark and post results, if in sandra your cpu is performing like it should and not in 06, well then you got a very special system right there

48c sounds ok, my single core venice which is the last amd chip I owned loaded higher iirc but not much.

If in Sandra your cpu is also not performing like it should the problem probably lies with chipset drivers, or you messed up a bios setting. Did you already try reinstalling all drivers in the right order?

You think I should buy new motherboard? Is it possible the CPU was manufactured improperly?

Help Re: 2600 xt not performing
Sorry, forgot to reply to other questions.

I'm positive bios is setup correctly and all drivers have been installed and re-installed numerous times...and yes in that order

I would ask someone with more experience to come over and check everything again as I'm almost sure you missed something. Your cpu is either missing chipset drivers, running with borked bios settings (CnQ or something) or throttling, and if those are all looked at and found ok then you're stuck with either a borked mobo or cpu and only way to test it is trying another cpu in the board or trying the cpu in another board. Go to your local hw store tell them about your problem and ask them if they can test the cpu in one off their systems.

I think the trouble is your PSU. 480W with 18A on the 12V rail,.

You need a MINIMUM of 550W with 28-30A on the 12V rail.

The HD 3870 needs 28-30A to operate correctly. Your simply starving the 6400+

You may have enough watts to cover everything, but you dont have the amps to push it

That would be my suggestion ...

Ow yeah that's true also, though I thought the 3870 used far less then your 28a

Yea, i just upgraded to the 3870 :) Nice cards actually ...

But according to ATI, it reccomends , and I quote:

At least 450W power Supply with 30A on the 12V rail
For X-Fire 550W Power Supply with 38A on the 12V rail.

What he linked was 470W and 18A :-/ Which is why I say, find a decent 550W with the dual 18A rails, at least, and should be ok
My guess is with only 18A hes starving that 6400+ for power or the card, or both.
