Deus Ex 3 In The Works!

Creating a little buzz today, the folks over at Eidos Interactive have announced that a third installment in the Deus Ex franchise is currently in development at their newly formed Montreal studio. The game is still in its early stages of development, so details are being kept under tight wraps. No release date or platforms are revealed, but a hot new teaser trailer is available on Eidos Montreal's website. You can check it out right here! :D

Hopefully it won't be a miserable console port like Deus Ex IW was...

Dont you Mean Dues Ex 2 Redux? I didnt think that anyone accepted dues ex 2 as actually being "valid" in the dues ex universe. He he.

But Omgzors, if they use the u3 engine and use the original writing team....this could be great!

I hope it's going to be a worthy successor of Deus Ex 1.

I might actually go to church for once

I remain cynical. If it's multiplatform then it WILL be dumbed down, even if they claim seperate development. Eg. Oblivion.

As Deus Ex:Infinite War proved all those years ago, there will never have a proper sequel until Warren Spector is named as writer or creative director. Until then, Eidos may as well announce they are working on a "Announced Shooter/RPG Conspiracy Game", because as far as I am concerned it is Deus Ex in name only.

Strictly speaking, it's Eidos' new Montreal Studio that's the news here - the fact that they were working on a third Deus Ex game was known earlier this year.

Good to hear. Deus Ex is one of my favorite games of all time, and I'd love to see a real and proper sequel to it's greatness.

I really hope it better than DX2. That one was not DX.

Hm, they are making it for Pc and consoles arnt they? So that means it will likely be designed for Console then ported to PC, sucks. Between Fallout 3 and now Deus ex 3 and rumours about a BG3, im starting to dislike the number 3, and am feeling like some of my favourite game world are getting raped.

Ah well, nothing you can really do about it unless you plan on blowing up some buildings. I am hoping that they dont mess up too bad and at least are good games if not a touch on thier originals.

Wish thier was an "edit" option.

They are likely to make the game for PC and console is what i ment to say rather than asking it as a question. However Bioware are making Dragon age just for PC so maybe they may decide to design it for pc as well, then at a later date cross-port it.

If it is a port (co-created = portish) i am unlikely to buy it untill it drops down to a 2 or 3 for £15 deal.

Unfortunately, I think concurrent multi-platform development is almost a given these days.

# 1 Hope it works on windows98se , if not, XP, it better not be vista only

#2 DEUS EX is a stupid ass name, but thier games kicks ass. Might be one of the best action/fps/rpg shooters around, or one of the best FPS shooters around.

#3 Have fun

Neeyik 2007-12-02 #14
Deus Ex is a stupid name? Dear God - I weep for humanity...

Copperhead 2007-12-02 #15
Well, instead of weeping , you could actually tell the lowly humanity what it means :

Here's a copy/paste :

The Latin phrase "deus ex machina" has its origins in the conventions of Greek tragedy. It refers to situations in which a mechane (crane) was used to lower actors playing a god or gods onto the stage. Though the phrase is accurately translated as "God from a machine," in literary criticism, it is often translated to "God on a machine."

The phrase has been extended to refer to any resolution to a story that does not pay due regard to the story's internal logic and is so unlikely that it challenges suspension of disbelief, allowing the author to conclude the story with an unlikely, though more palatable, ending.

In modern terms the deus ex machina has also come to describe a being, object or event that suddenly appears and solves a seemingly insoluble difficulty, where the author has "painted the characters into a corner" that they can't easily be extricated from (e.g. the cavalry unexpectedly coming to the rescue, or James Bond using a gadget that just so happens to be perfectly suited to the needs of the situation).
