Fallout 3 Operation Anchorage Fumbles

Japan? No DLC for You!

First of the three announced Fallout 3 DLC packs (Operation Anchorage) has arrived and is now available on the PC through Games for Windows LIVE client for 800 MS points (10$). However, it seems that not everything is quite working as it should... While you could purchase the game through Steam all over the world, Games for Windows LIVE DLC distribution appears to be limited to "select countries".

Reports indicate that players located in Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Netherlands and Portugal are currently unable to purchase the package and this list is most likely not complete. Apparently money from these gamers is no good for Microsoft's service.

Games for Windows LIVE is also reportedly deciding the language version of the DLC pack based on the country of your LIVE marketplace account and not on the language of the Fallout 3 installed on your system. Live in France but imported your copy from the UK to avoid localized version? Well, the DLC pack will install itself in French with no option to change the language or download the English version and the end result is a mishmash of English and French content in the game.

If Microsoft hadn't fired the manager of Games for Windows LIVE last week, I'd suggest they would do it for these retarded mistakes right about now...

Update: Rock, Paper, Shotgun has posted a nice summary of their first hand experience on the lameness of Games for Windows LIVE DLC.

WTH

Netherland is part of the EU, thus it uses the Euro.
Why is only The Netherlands and Portugal on the list and not Germany or France or Belgium or Spain or etc?

It appears fairly random and is definitely something I'd expect them to fix, but either way, it's currently messed up for many countries...

Wish it would be available on Steam, but I guess it's a big "Games for Windows LIVE marketplace paid content DLC" test. If it works, expect more content patches with price tags.

Except from Valve, who puts them out free of charge and rakes in megabucks as their original games keep selling months, even years after publication.

bethesda screwed this up, just like they did before with horse armor. They gotta get their act together... they should be dictating how their product gets to their customers... they made tons of money on these games, they should have control and stop bending over.

Yet these same people cry about game piracy. It takes less time to get the expansion from other sources, is free and doesn't require you to install 5243452 MS softwares to your pc.

I bought fallout 3 from steam, and if they dont feature this on steam aswell, ill just get a pirated version of the game with the dlc.
