Universe at War to Support Cross-Platform Multiplayer

Keeping things interesting this evening, SEGA and Petroglyph have announced that their upcoming strategy title Universe at War: Earth Assault will take advantage of Microsoft's recently launched Games for Windows Live service, which allows for cross-platform play between the PC and XBox 360. This also makes Universe at War the first 3rd party title to support Games for Windows.

Anyways, here's a nice little quote from the announcement:

"Cross-platform play between PC and consoles has been a dream of gamers for many years," said Scott A. Steinberg, Vice President of Marketing, SEGA of America, Inc. "Now that dream has become reality. We are very excited that Universe at War: Earth Assault is at the fore front of supporting Microsoft's Games for Windows – Live initiative, bridging the PC and Xbox 360 gap."

You can expect the game to hit stores for the PC later this year and on the Xbox 360 some time in Q1 2008.
