Assassin's Creed
Developer - Ubisoft Montreal
The holiday season is shaping up to be a good one for PC gamers. Traditionally, big console releases fill the shelves for the end-of-year shopping blitz, but this year a number of highly anticipated PC games are scheduled for release. Among the most closely watched is Assassin's Creed, Ubisoft's medieval cloak-and-dagger action-fest. It's not a PC exclusive (Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 versions are slated for simultaneous release), but don't let that quash your enthusiasm: Assassin's Creed is shaping up to be a bona-fide hit, regardless of platform.
A Next-Gen Prince of PersiaAt first glance, the game bears a close resemblance to modern Prince of Persia titles. This comes as no surprise, as Ubisoft Montreal, the development house behind every Prince of Persia game since Sands of Time, are developing Assassin's Creed. Despite the compelling storyline, the PoP formula is a bit stale as of late; while the new game is fresh IP, it's a sure bet that the best gameplay elements from PoP have influenced the game's design.
After a well-received first showing at E3 2006, Ubisoft has kept any information about the game under tight wraps. With only a handful of gameplay videos released since its announcement, E3 2007 saw Ubisoft offer a tantalizing press-only hands-on session with the game. From those brief first impressions, we learned more about the innovative control scheme and multi-faceted gameplay. The story looks to be engrossing, and the visuals are top-notch. Does Ubisoft have another hit series on their hands?
