Conclusion and Scores Enemy Territory: Quake Wars is developer Splash Damage's second multiplayer-only game based on an id Software franchise, and this time they actually charge money for it. The first, free Enemy Territory was hugely popular and in many ways ahead of its time - can Quake Wars top that? Times have changed in the post-Battlefield era. In 2003, Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory was abandoned as a commercial venture because of problems with the single-player campaign. Since then, Battlefield 2 has shown that a multiplayer-only FPS title can be a smash hit. The freeware multiplayer version of W:ET attracted a lot of players in its own right, so it's no surprise that developer Splash Damage ventures back into Enemy Territory with Quake Wars.
The idea of Enemy Territory: Quake Wars is simple: two teams of typically 12 players each fight to complete certain objectives, with one side attacking and the other defending. The game's premise could be just about anything, but Quake Wars is riding on one of the biggest names in PC gaming. Quake is almost synonymous with the first-person shooter genre, and Quake Wars benefits from the brand name recognition, but what is it all about?
