Valve's experiment with episodic gaming has reached it's second milestone, with Half-Life 2: Episode Two. Turning the continuation of the story of Half-Life 2 into a piece-by-piece series was supposed to give us shorter games, published more often and at a lower price. Well, I guess managing two out of three isn't that bad... Episode Two has taken two years to materialize. While a rapid episodic release schedule seems to work for the adventures of Sam & Max, Valve's dedication to polishing until it shines has lead to a very long development schedule for something that's supposed to be just a quick episode. This release is a bit longer experience than the shockingly short Episode One, and in that regard I guess Valve has reacted to customer feedback, but it's still far less than a "full" game. At least it's very cheap, as Team Fortress 2 and Portal together offer plenty of value for the price of The Orange Box.
